Calls for University To Set Up A Campus On Eastern Shore Of Virginia

Today, the University of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Foundation is inviting your University to set up a branch campus on the Eastern Shore of Virginia to bolster the community’s economy; it’s tagged the “Shore U” Project. The Foundation was solely created to make this dream become a reality and will provide all the necessary tools needed for the University to set up easily.

The importance of having a four-year institution of higher education in a community cannot be overemphasized. These institutions are engines of local economic development and add life-long financial security for graduates. The Eastern Shore of Virginia (ESVA) lacks a University which necessitated the creation of the project “Shore U.” The “Shore U” project will ensure that any interested university will be supported financially and in the community.

The University of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Foundation will help any interested university start the project by assisting in leasing or owning at competitive rates some of the 200+ vacant acres of Accomack County’s Industrial/Business Park. The Park is served with the usual roads and utilities (power/water/sewer/fiber) and, uniquely, a working 5000 X 100 feet airstrip (MFV). It is contiguous with the Eastern Shore Community College (ESCC), whose new President will want to coordinate with you.

The University of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Foundation envisions the interested University starting small with graduating students from ESCC on programs designed to be attractive to industries important to Virginia (STEM, teaching, medical, coding) and attracting students from other counties, states, and countries. Starting with programs at the Junior (3rd year) and Senior (4th year) taking advantage of your coordination with ESCC and its sister Colleges, leading to you issuing accredited baccalaureate degrees. They also look forward to seeing students numbering over 2,000 as well as moving on to Masters’ level accreditation and beyond.

Students and staff will be easily attracted to the area because of several factors, including its low cost-of-housing, natural beauty, recreational opportunities, history, three University Research Stations (UVA, VIMS, and Va Tech), proximity to the historical Hampton Roads area (1.7 million population) and important institutions such as Wallops — Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport (MARS), United States Navy-Norfolk (the largest naval base in the World) and associated ship-building industries, Dover Air Force Base, and Naval Air Station-Oceana in Virginia Beach, and strategic positioning in the middle of the Atlantic Seaboard.

Any Interested University is encouraged to contact the University of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Foundation: send an email to [email protected] or call +1.757.710.3001. For further information, please visit www.ShoreU.org.
