DITP Supports Ten Leading Thai Film and Production Companies at the Marché du Film during the Cannes Film Festival 2023

The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce of Thailand bringing ten prominent Thai film and Production companies to participate in the Marché du Film Fair at the renowned Cannes Film Festival, expecting to generate a minimum revenue of 500 million baht, bolstering the growth and competitiveness of the Thai entertainment industry in the global market.

Mr. Phusit Ratanakul Sereroengrit, Director-General of Department of International Trade Promotion stated, “The DITP, under the Ministry of Commerce, recognizes the importance of driving the digital content industry in the global market. Therefore, we have taken proactive steps to support and promote the participation of Thai content entrepreneurs in various activities at international film festivals. This year, the DITP has brought Thai leading companies to participate in the Marché du Film, Cannes Film Festival 2023 for the 16th time from May 16 to May 24, 2023. Through this business matching initiative, we aim to boost trade, investment, co-production, subcontracting, and to enhance the competitive edge of the Thai entertainment industry in the global market, in line with the Ministry of Commerce’s policy to drive Thailand’s Soft Power.”

“The Cannes Film Festival is an event that attracts worldwide attention to the art of cinema. It also plays a crucial role in driving the film industry. It reflects the diversity of film, not only as a form of creative expression but also as a commercial product. During the festival, the Marché du Film is one of the largest and most bustling film markets in the world. It provides a vast space for international filmmakers to engage with producers, investors, distributors, content buyers, and agents, facilitating the exchange of ideas, project screenings, contract signings, and film sales. Last year marked the full-scale return of the international film industry with the premiere screening of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ at the festival.”

10 companies will be attending the Marché du Film in Cannes Film Festival 2023 with the support of the DITP. 8 companies represent Thailand’s Film Production & Distribution: BrandThink, Film Frame Productions, GDH 559, Halo Productions, Kantana Motion Pictures, M Pictures, Right Beyond, and Sahamongkolfilm International. Additionally, 2 companies specialising in Production and Post-Production Services: Benetone Films and Yggdrazil Group, will be present.

The Cannes Film Festival is one of the longest-running and most prestigious film festivals in the world. In 2023, it is held for the 76th time. The Marché du Film, Europe’s largest film market, attracts over 12,500 industry professionals worldwide. This event is of great importance in generating revenue and elevating the film industry and related businesses to grow in the global market.

In 2022, Thai film entrepreneurs generated revenue of over 849 million baht at the Marché du Film, over 659 million baht at the American Film Market, and recently over 1.3 billion baht through trade negotiations at the Hong Kong FILMART 2023. The upcoming Cannes Film Festival 2023 is expected to facilitate trade negotiations, investments and business networking, leading to significant economic opportunities and monetary gains.
