Leading Gamification Authority Yu-kai Chou shares insight on the convergence of Metaverse (Immersion), Web3 (Value), and Gamification (Engagement) at HarvardXR 2023
Yu-kai Chou, Founding Partner of The Octalysis Group and the original creator of the Octalysis Framework, shared his insights at the esteemed HarvardXR 2023 event on April 2023. An internationally recognized speaker who has delivered talks at Stanford, Yale, and Oxford, Chou presented on the fascinating intersection of the Metaverse (immersion), Web3 (value), and Gamification (engagement).
Having been an active pioneer for Gamification since 2003, Chou’s expertise has been acknowledged by Rise, the Gamification World Congress, and Gamified Europe, which named him the #1 Gamification Guru globally for three out of four years.
Chou’s extensive background includes serving as Chief Experience Officer for Toronto-based Decentral, working with Ethereum Co-founder Anthony Di Iorio. His involvement in numerous blockchain projects such as Metablox.co, Web3 Ventures, and Bloomverse has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of Web3, the decentralized web powered by Blockchain Technology.
His experience with the Metaverse dates back to 2006 when he founded Future Delivery, a virtual world company. He later held positions as Head of Creative Labs and Head of Digital Commerce for HTC, during which he contributed to the launch of the VIVE Focus 3, VIVE Flow, and VIVERSE.
Chou’s book, “Actionable Gamification – Beyond Points, Badges, and Leaderboards,” has sold over 100,000 copies worldwide. He aims to complete his second book, “10,000 Hours of Play,” within the year. In line with his commitment to sharing knowledge and fostering community growth, Chou hosts a monthly Metablox Webinar, educating his communities on these cutting-edge technologies.
Chou’s contributions have been recognized globally. He is a Fellow for the Royal Society of Arts based in England, has been knighted by His Imperial Highness King Yi Seok, the only living heir to the Joseon dynasty throne in Korea, and serves as a Committee Member of the Smart City Counsel of Taipei.
